One of the great things about having this blog is the international readers I get to connect with. I enjoy reading their blogs, and it always surprises me which foreign countries come across mine. (I get a lot of readers from Minsk....how in the world did that happen?!)

What to Bring When You're "On Set"

Hooray for Friday! Today I was hosting a fun video series, which was a great way to end the week. I shot one earlier in the week for Humperdinks, which is a fun bar/restaurant with really good food, and today I shot another for EyeMart Express. I thought I'd share a few of my tips on what to bring to set that many people forget about.

Ah, the tools of the trade in the makeup room. This client uses all MAC...I love the Spice lip liner so much. Tip: Bring your own mascara just in case, especially if you have sensitive eyes. (Or they forget to put any on you...which happens to me fairly often!) ByTerry mascara is a good one to try. It's a tinted lash serum, which is healthier for your lashes.

Wardrobe room....bring LOTS of choices if the client asks you to bring your own.

Tip: Sometimes they don't know what they want until the see it, so bring WAY more than you feel comfortable bringing. Always bring a generic black pant, pair of dark wash jeans, solid color shirts (both casual and dress,) a lightweight sweater in a neutral color, dress socks, black and brown shoes, and a nice business casual dress or two. Oh, and appropriate undergarments....you don't want to be bra-less on set. Trust me.

Today, I got to wear some really cute frames for the shoot I was hosting. I haven't ever worn eye glasses before, but I really liked them! Tip: If you wear them on a regular basis, make sure your clients know and are okay with you wearing yours on camera. They can make a bright or shiny glare on camera, so you may want to wear contact lenses just in case.


Tip: Once you're on set, make sure to have a bottle of water (with a straw, so you don't mess up your lipstick!) close by, as well as something to occupy your time while you wait for set dressing, camera rehearsal, lighting tweaks, etc. I always bring a book along, or spend time perusing Pinterest for new ideas. (I'd love to have you follow mine! Add me on Pinterest and I will follow you back. We can share obsessions.) Another word of advice...be sure you know when your mic is on or off. If it's ON, everyone can hear your swallowing, your phone conversations, your bathroom breaks, the muttering under your breath, and the nose snorts. Be aware or kill your mic yourself when attempting these things. :)

Dealing With Negativity

Negative comments. Boooooo.

I will admit that it's taken me a really long time to brush off negativity from outside sources. It's a hard thing to come to grips with, especially since the evolution of Twitter, Facebook, and the internet in general. It used to be limited to gossip in school or celebs being bashed by tabloids, but now no one is immune and it's kind of scary. Being told you are terrible at your job, look like a dude, have an annoying voice, etc....all hurtful comments and hard not to take personally. (How in the world does Kim Kardashian deal with the scrutiny? Probably by sleeping on a pile of money.)

Well, they say (and I'm still not sure who "they" are,) that any publicity is good publicity, and if people are talking badly about you, at least you've gotten them talking. But when faced with negative remarks, my first inclination is to ask "Why does anyone care?" and secondly, I want to bake cookies for whomever said the hurtful remarks and spend the next several hours trying to disprove whatever they think. Silly, isn't it?

Here are a few things that people have passed on that really helped me keep things in perspective:

Envy is an illusion. When something good happens to someone else, it takes nothing away from you. Sometimes it takes us a while to figure that out, and until we do, we focus on the negatives of those we admire.
The ones who say "you can't" or "you won't" are the ones who are probably scared that YOU WILL.
Gossip doesn't need to be false. There is a lot of truth that also shouldn't be spread around. Don't contribute, even when it comes your way.
The fact that someone doesn't find you amazing doesn't reflect poorly on you. It only means they have bad taste. (hee hee!)
Matthew 5:44: But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who insult you and persecute you.

How To Look Good In Photos

I spent this afternoon typing a blog about how to look good in photos. No one wants to take a bad photo, though they do make excellent fodder for rehearsal dinner slideshows and high school reunions.

Oh, and here are a few bonus tips that aren't on the blog post:

-Keep your chin level with the ground. Don't tilt too far down or you'll get a fangle. If you don't know what a fangle is, watch this at 1:43. Don't tilt too far up, or you'll get a nostril shot, which is equally unattractive.

-Visine in your eyes beforehand will make the whites of your eyes look whiter in photos.

-Shading either side of your nose with non-glittery bronzer will make it look thinner.

-Don't wear huge dangly earrings. They are distracting and can make your head look bigger.

-Stretch your arms out as wide as you can behind you, pinching your shoulder blades. This is the posture you should maintain when being photographed, except with your arms at your sides.

Celebrate at Home

One thing I did in 2011 was cut back on the number of events I attended. I love going out and seeing old and new friends, but I tried to make a point of spending as much free time at home as I could. I never want to be the person who attends every single event I'm invited to...where is the mystery in that? I think having an active home life is just as important as your social activities. We've had several little celebrations at home for that very reason; to enjoy time with friends and family in an intimate setting. Who doesn't love a home-cooked spread and the warmth of a fireplace?

There's No Place Like Home

There is truly no place like home for the holidays. Here is a peek at our colorful Christmas decor. Though we did an e-Christmas card this year, I was pleasantly surprised to receive so many mailed Christmas cards, which are on display on my mantle.
(Don't you love getting something in the mail? Just like the good old days.)

One of the unique things that the Kennedy family does is a "snack dinner" on Christmas Eve after the church service. Instead of the usual meal, we have things like chips and queso, sausage balls, finger sandwiches, fondue, homemade pralines and fudge, as well as a pie or two. Here is the recipe for one of our favorite snack dinner items: the Tortilla Pinwheel.

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

12 (14-ounce package) flour tortillas
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 cup sour cream
1 (4-ounce) can chopped green chiles
3 tablespoons chopped green onion
2 tablespoons finely chopped red bell pepper
12 ounces sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
1 cup salsa or picante sauce

Preparation:

Directions for tortilla roll-ups.
In a medium bowl combine cream cheese, sour cream, chilies, onion, red bell pepper, and Cheddar cheese. Mix thoroughly. Spread onto tortillas and roll up. Cover tightly and chill for 2 hours or overnight. When ready to serve, cut each roll into 1/2-inch slices. Serve with salsa or picante sauce. Makes about 8 dozen pieces of tortilla roll-ups.

It's almost here...one of the most fun holidays of the year. It makes me happy to see how many homes in my neighborhood have decorated for the occasion. One house has a giant blow-up spider and a blow-up Winnie the Pooh (dressed as Dracula!) in their front yard. I especially like it when people create a fake cemetery in their yard. So creepy.

Though we usually carve scary pumpkins and string up a homemade ghost from our second-story balcony, we did a "fall harvest" theme this year. Word to the wise: hay bales look super festive; However, they are super messy. Just sayin'.

There is nothing better than a surprise home cooked meal and roses...simple and sweet. Every month it's a different bouquet, and I love them all. Who doesn't love waking up to fresh flowers in the house? Here are a few quick and easy ideas I love to surprise your sweetheart:

Celebrate a crazy holiday.
You can create your own holiday or choose one of the strange holidays that are already on the calendar. Did you know September 9 was Teddy Bear Day and today is Grandparent's Day? Make a snack, do a picnic or play a game, or buy a gift that goes with the holiday.

Create a staycation.
Make the bed and put a candy on the pillow. Set out a vase of fresh flowers or a new magazine. Offer room service for dinner and dessert. If you have a pool, serve dressed up drinks with umbrellas and have "towel service". Fold the toilet paper into fancy shapes at the end of the roll. :)

Plan a surprise an indoor picnic...especially on chilly nights.
Put a blanket out on the floor of the living room and have a dinner picnic. If you can be next to the fireplace, roast marshmallows and make s'mores for dessert. (Or if you're a little wary of fire, this Smores maker is awesome.)

Fashion's Night Out 2011

Well, another successful Fashion's Night Out has come and gone. I was actually supposed to be in NYC for a shoot with Conde Nast yesterday, and the east coast storms a few weeks ago kept me from being able to get a ticket. With my crazy shoot schedule, I usually have to make day trips to either coast so I can get back in time for the next day's shoot here in Dallas. Needless to say, I was pretty bummed out to be missing FNO in New York and meeting the wonderful, stylish crew at Conde Nast.

To keep my mind off my sorrows, I was sent to cover FNO last night at Highland Park Village (the very first shopping center in the country!) and Tootsies, and it was an even bigger affair than last year. The amazingly beautiful and always gracious Jan Strimple put on two runway shows at HPV that wowed everyone. Another fun event at HPV was at Jimmy Choo, to celebrate the official debut of "Style Sheet" at D Magazine. Two of the most creative and wonderfully nice people you'll ever meet, Kristi and Scot Redman (pictured above) are the brains behind Style Sheet, and even if you aren't a local, you should check it out for inspiration.
Sadly, since I was working, I didn't get to experience the manicures at Chanel or check out the new DVF collection, but I plan on doing some fall shopping this weekend to make up for it. :)
It's tough to know what to wear for FNO, since everyone looks so lovely. I chose a comfortable Black Halo dress and Via Spiga heels (not pictured)...which weren't comfy, but added a good five inches to my height.

What's in my bag?

Clutches and small purses are so easy to carry and look much more polished than the suitcase sized purses I usually carry, but they are incredibly tricky to pack with the essentials. I over-pack for everything, so trying to figure out what should go in my tiny purse is always a headache. I have created a condensed list of what should go in a small clutch or evening bag...

The Essentials:

iPhone/smartphone
Stick of gum or small mints
Driver's license or Metrocard
Credit or debit card
$20 cash for valet or taxi
Lipstick and gloss
Powder or blotting papers (This is a CHEAP must-have!)
Small strip of fashion tape for any mishaps (Another CHEAP must-have!)
Brush-ups or pic of sword floss
Keys (only if you have to!)

Since most phones have cameras and video, no need to pack those. The clutches pictured here are some of my favorites: a classic Gucci, a brightly colored beaded version to add punch to any outfit, a non-descript nude color for wear with everything that has a removable strap , and an embellished turquoise leather Isabella Fiore.
Pack light and still have fun!

I'm so Blue

It's pretty funny when you coordinate your closet and realize how much you own of ONE color. Can you guess which one mine is?

I thought I might show a few photos of my blue family inspirations right now. I love all shades of blue: turquoise, grey blue, baby blue, cobalt...you name it. I think it's a great color on redheads (and anyone, really) and I was told once that it's the best color to wear to a job interview. Apparently royal blue is a powerful color that makes you look authoritative without coming across as arrogant or threatening. In my line of work, actors book auditions more frequently in this color than any other. Okay, now to the inspirations above:

1. I love the peacock pillows on the chaise lounge. In fact, I loved that pattern so much that I had tall wing-back chairs made for my office out of that same print. Now, there is such a thing as too much peacock. I have to admit they came out beautifully, but looking a little like they might belong in Elton John's office more than mine. (I may be re-doing my office soon, so if you're interested in them, they are for sale. Email me!)

2. Next is the beautiful Essie nail polish in Coat Azure. This is a breathtaking medium blue with a little shimmer, and doesn't look quite so ghetto fab as other blues. Let's face it-you have to be careful with blue nail polish and cosmetics. One minute you're hip and cool, the next you are gunning for first prize in a Tiger Wood's mistress look-alike pageant.

3-4. I am a sucker for beautifully done tablescapes and dessert tables, and these created for wedding showers inspire me to have more parties at home. Those icing dipped marshmellows are easy to do and look so cute. (Here is another marshmellow recipe for Chocolate Caramel Toasted Coconut Marshmallows. These also look and taste amazing at a party. Yum.) I love the Tiffany blue and ivory together-such a classic combo.

5. Although I don't see the resemblance and she's much prettier, the celeb I am told I look the most similar to is Lauren Conrad.
That being said, I actually really like her persona, her fashion and beauty books, videos, clothing lines...basically her entire empire. Her new Paper Crown line is sweet and soft, and I love the bohemian vibe it has. This navy flower print dress from her Holiday Lookbook makes me want to braid my hair and pick flowers. So lovely!

6. Lastly is the view from my front porch. I love living near the lake and seeing the sun set over the water. It's peaceful, quiet, and encourages everyone in the neighborhood to take long walks in the evening, which I like. Sometimes you have to unplug from the digital world and just admire all God has created in its natural (unphotoshopped) beauty.....and then be thankful that we've been given another day.

For interior design lovers, I wanted to share the sumptuous style of the Margaret Thatcher Suite at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas. I did a shoot there last week and I was very taken with how stylish and pretty this space is. Apparently the former Prime Minister was a guest of the hotel, and they honored her with naming this gorgeous suite after her. I am in awe of the bathroom...the claw tub is begging for someone to enjoy a long soak in it.

With stunning views of downtown Dallas, this suite is definitely worth checking out if you're ever in town and need a luxurious room.

A Girl's Best Friend

I've been meaning to post these for a while, but I've been so busy traveling lately that I am just now getting around to it. I recently did a shoot for a national jeweler, who was so kind to let me wear over $100, 000 worth of diamonds for an afternoon. Let me tell you, slipping that 6-carat emerald cut diamond ring on was the equivalent of a man getting to drive a brand new Maserati for the day! The earrings and a necklace they also brought for me were stunning, but it was this incredible bracelet that made my heart flutter. Have you ever seen such glittery goodness?

For a moment, I weighed the pros and cons of what might happen if I ran out of the building with all of them on and drove to Mexico to live out the rest of my days, but then I remembered that I don't speak much Spanish and I'm afraid to drink the water. So, unless I win the lottery or my Mom decides this will be a very generous family Christmas, I will have to keep my obsession to these gorgeous baubles for now.

Birthday Bliss

Who says you can't have a grown up birthday party filled with cake and candy? I recently went to my dear friend Christy's "Rock N' Roll" sushi birthday party, and it was to die for! The cake was like something out of a Willy Wonka dream world, complete with gumball trim and lollipops. There were several jars full of childhood favorites, like gum machine gumballs, Twizzlers, Hershey's Kisses, candy sours, and cute treat bags with beautiful ribbon to fill up with the delicious treats. A live band played hits from the 90's, providing the "rock". Sushi rolls and other finger foods provided the "roll". So cute! Something new I'd never thought of: a "cigar bar" for the men, with more adult beverages and a selection of smokes to be enjoyed on the patio. Several signature cocktails were served, along with that sinfully good cake. It had something for everyone-strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate! This party was so much fun, I'm already counting the days down until my birthday this year. In case you are looking for adorable party pics and ideas, check out this blog. I can't get enough of it!

I only wish I'd thought of this gorgeous pink Kate Spade New York bag to gift the birthday girl....and this beautiful Lacey Continental wallet, which holds everything. These would have been perfectly matched with her fun girly theme....but I might just have to add them to my birthday list as well.

Dining Room Makeover

I'm not much of an interior decorator (which is why I hired one,) and we just finished my dining room and thought I would share the transformation. The "Before" photo looks so sad! It's amazing what a little wallpaper, new fabrics, and furniture with character can do. The furniture is antique, courtesy of my grandparents, along with the gilded mirror. It's amazing how classic styles always look good, no matter when they were made. My sister helped me recover the dining chairs with the pattern on the buffet runner and chair pillow. You can't see all of it, but the chair in the corner is from Nadeau, and the sconces are from Cyan Design. I added crystal decanters to the buffet, and not pictured is the china hutch with the beautiful china service set for twelve that my Grandmother Johnette gave me this year. Rather than wallpapering the entire room, I opted for just one wall. It makes a bold statement when you first come into the room, and keeps visitors from feeling overwhelmed with the shiny golden accents. I love how formal it feels now....time for a party!

Here are my favorite scores of the summer. I collect Louis Vuitton handbags, both new and vintage. These two Epi Leather LV's were birthday and anniversary gifts this summer, and I am totally in love with them. I treasure my Monogram bags as well, so these summer colors give me a chance to give them a rest. The beautiful gemstone earrings were a gift my Mom bought me from the Abbey Lane Gallery in Colorado, and the gold stone ring was a $5 find at Forever 21. The online store is out of this peachy color, but they have two new colors here. Bright colors always make me feel a little happier, and these items do the trick every time!

I had the fun experience of spending a few days this spring in Palm Springs, CA. Instead of the usual hotel or B&B route, we stayed in a vacation rental home in a gated community on a golf course. This was a unique and fun idea because it had the comforts of home (since it is one-duh,) but had all the style of a boutique hotel. The modern and clean style on the inside was such a surprise! The exterior of the home was a typical ranch-style, but the interior decor was very Hollywood glam. (Check out the glass chandelier below.) The backyard was just as fabulous, with a great view of the golf course and the mountains. Oh, and a mini-putting green in the backyard! If you're looking for a way to step-up your vacation experience the next time you travel, a home rental is definitely worth checking in to!

If You're Not Living On the Edge, You're Taking Up Too Much Space

The past two years have been a time of major change-especially in my career. Change can often be uncomfortable, but it keeps us from becoming complacent and bored. New opportunities and career advancements don't always present themselves unsolicited or fall out of the sky, so it's important to stay motivated and seeking out new avenues. I love this article on how to re-motivate yourself every day...nothing earth shattering, but good reminders to manage your time well, sit and relax, and work more efficiently.

A few things I like to do to get motivated are:

Take a new class at the gym. I'm not the queen of pilates, but I'm happy I give it a shot.
Order a new book from Amazon on a subject I'd like to know more about. I recently read this home decor book.
Spend time praying...especially outdoors when the weather is nice. Peaceful and centering.
Buy healthy groceries. This motivates me to eat better, since I love me some sweets.
Conversely, if I make it through a tough day, I reward myself with a chocolate chip cookie or a cupcake from a local bakery. Rewards are good stuff for the soul!
Read other creative blogs for inspiration. Many people out there have schedules twice as busy as mine, yet they still have time to share their passions with others. Check out some of the blog buttons on my page for reads you'll want to bookmark.
Write down a list of goals...even add pictures of these goals as a visual. I have a list taped up in my closet so I see it every day, and I cross goals off one by one as I accomplish them. I try to mix big goals (furnishing the media room) with smaller goals (update my blog more often).
Dedicate yourself to a selfless project. This can be volunteering at church or throwing a friend a baby shower. These kinds of projects are motivating in a different way-it helps me realize that the way to reach my dreams is to help enough other people reach theirs.
Post-its with encouraging affirmations should be put up everywhere you will see them each day. I like to do these for myself and also for others, and here is an example: No matter what happens, I will trust God to make my life into something good.

DIY: Worth it?

Anyone who knows me is aware that I am the least crafty person on the planet. I am not artistic and have zero propensity for handmade goodness. That being said....for whatever reason last week I drove by the beginnings of an estate sale of pure junk and felt compelled to stop. I have no idea why, but this little black desk chair jumped out at me. It seemed a little sad (it looks and smells like it's been on someone's front porch in the elements for quite some time,) and it whispered "Take me with you!" I have never, ever refinished or painted a piece of furniture in my life, but this little chair seems worth the risk of trying. It cost me $10, and $9 in Behr paint/sandpaper from Home Depot. So, for less than $20, (I already have some extra fabric to use for the seat,) I am going to give DIY a go. I will post the results-good OR bad-once this little guy is made over.

I have a summer birthday, so I spend most of May thinking about what I want before my family makes me hand over a comprehensive list. (I learned early on that if you don't ask for what you really want, you may get a "Grow Your Own Tadpole" kit. Yuck.)

What an experience this year's DIFF was! The highlights included interviewing Hollywood icon Ann-Margret (her engagement ring is to die for!), Gil Cates, Jr. and Ari Graynor of the new film "Lucky" and one of my favorite filmmakers, Morgan Spurlock (The Greatest Movie Ever Sold). My only regret is that my question about "Mane N Tail" didn't make the final edit.

I also enjoyed chatting with Dennis Quaid (Soul Surfer), Jerry Jeff Walker (OK Buckaroos), Larry Hagman, and Peter Fonda. (Though I have to say, Larry Hagman wouldn't dish much about the new Dallas pilot. Boo.)

Working as both the host and the producer, my interviews were both interesting and challenging. (Especially when you have NO idea who is going to show up for the red carpet.) This year's films were better than ever, with the documentary film, "Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey" at the top of my list. My advice for surviving a film festival? Bring a pair of flats in your bag when you're done working the red carpet or shooting at the galas/parties and capitalize on the free screening passes when you can.

Springtime Traditions

I love springtime because the flowers are blooming, the grass is green, and dining outdoors makes everything taste better! I wanted to share a few of my favorite springtime ideas and some that I hope to try.

If you're native Texan like I am, then you probably have made a special effort to take family photos in the bluebonnets when they are in bloom. As cheesy as this tradition can be (with the matching shirts and pants combo,) it's also a fun one that celebrates spring and loved ones. There are some gorgeous bluebonnet fields near my house, so I succumbed to the power of the bluebonnets. Here are some tips on how to take a great photo in these beautiful flowers.

Today I spotted this on Etsy, and was immediately reminded to pray for the people of Japan who have been victims of the terrible earthquake this month. I love to see talented artists like this giving back to those in a time of need. Naoko Stoop was born in Tokyo and is a self-taught illustrator. How cool is that? She is donating a portion of the proceeds of this artwork to the relief of her home country, and I find that inspiring today.

Sharper Image Garment Steamer

As it warms up, I find myself doing more and more shopping for short skirts and sunglasses. While I was shopping this week, I thought about something that has changed my life (okay, perhaps that's a little too dramatic,) and my closet. Since being on-camera requires a huge arsenal of clothing-hey, not every shoot has a budget for full wardrobe-I tend to buy a few expensive staples and the cheaper, trendier tops for variety. One thing that hands down made those cheaper items look crisper, newer, and more expensive has been a professional garment steamer. I got one from Sharper Image for Christmas, and I LOVE it. Love, love, love. It's saved me quite a bit of money on dry cleaning and made some of those ridiculously cheap Forever XX1 shirts look beautiful. Plus, you can steam practically anything-your drapes, your sheets, you name it. For $80, it's worth the investment.

Also, a tip for exfoliating your face and body (and removing pesky spray tan after it's a few days old,) I like to use a little Vaseline and mix it with sea salt. I think everyone should have a jar of Vaseline on hand since it's so cheap and can be used to do a million things. (Did you know you can fill in scratches on LCD screens with it? You can also fill in cracks/scratches on furniture with it. It does everything!

I caught the beginning of feel-good flick "Pretty Woman" yesterday, when Edward Lewis takes Vivian up to the penthouse at the Regent Beverly Wilshire, declaring he's afraid of heights but always reserves it because "It's the best". Oddly enough, I had my own "Pretty Woman" moment this afternoon....I toured the penthouse of the Joule Hotel in downtown Dallas while scouting the location for a shoot later this month. Since I'm currently trying to decorate my home, I was really interested in the slick decor and use of space. You can't get more interior design delicious than the penthouse!

Gorgeous Skin at Sephora

I'll be the first to admit that I am lazy when it comes to my skin. I made the giant leap of faith this year by purchasing a Clairsonic, which I did end up loving. So when DDF invited a few bloggers and personalities in Dallas to come visit the Sephora Beauty Studio for a private skincare analysis and introduction to the DDF skincare line, I thought it would be in my future face's best interest to go. (Plus, Guiliana Rancic is a spokesperson for DDF, and I adore her!)

The invite let me bring along two wonderful girlfriends, who agreed to brave the skin analysis with me. The DDF rep used a facial sonogram (yes, just like a pregnancy sonogram) to test the collogen, melanin, and hemoglobin in my face versus the skin inside my forearm. It was pretty crazy to see what kind of damage lies beneath the surface of my airbrushed foundation and bronzer. (Blast those days of extreme tanning before Spring Break. Sigh.)

What really blew me away, though was the Advanced Eye Firming Concentrate. The rep patted it gently underneath one eye, and left the other eye as it was. Within ten minutes, both of my friends could tell a visible difference in how my eye looked. It was firmer, smoother, and looked more "awake". With a price tag of $88, this isn't an inexpensive fix, but one that clearly works-no question.

With their own small, battery operated micro-polishing system and a Mesojection Healthy Cell Serum that makes your face feel smooth as glass, I was impressed with DDF. One of my girlfriends purchased the micro-polishing system, which is the perfect size for travel or home use. I also love that the products are full of botanicals and herbs....I'm becoming more and more of a tree-hugger these days. They sent us on our way with great samples of their best products and a fun goodie bag. Although I'm not accustomed to spending so much money on eye creams (mainly because I haven't used one before,) the DDF Eye Firming Concentrate proved itself worthy of the price tag.

Lately I've been obsessing over color-coded everything. I color coded my closet so I can find wardrobe more easily for shoots, and even made sure I have all the same color wooden hangers to hang it all on. I am in the midst of decorating the study upstairs, and after seeing these pictures on TheModernHome, I had to give it a try. I have to say, it's definitely more pleasing to the eye and was fun to do. We have more black and white books than any other colors, but I am vowing to buy more pink and yellow books just for the fun of it. My handiwork isn't quite as lovely as these photos, but I am happy every time I look for a book!

Football met playboy this evening as "Girls Next Door" Bridget Marquardt chose to wear a black jumpsuit with pink trim, and stilettos with knee high socks. Bridget complemented her outfit with a football handbag and, she showed Dallas girls how to make a bra an accessory. Marilyn, I mean Holly Madison, opted for a more classic look wearing a stylish black cocktail dress to go with her platinum hair. As was the norm all evening, these ladies opted to leave little to the imagination, prompting the boys in the crowd to play the popular game, "Real or Not Real". Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger looked great in black satin and silver heels.
There was not much to report on men's fashion except to state the obvious that Hugh Jackman looks good in anything. It was late when Jackman made it to the red carpet and Hilary had him all to herself.

2010 was one of the most action-packed years I've ever had. God was incredibly good to me in both my personal and professional life, and I am extremely grateful for all He has done and plans to do in 2011. A few of the work highlights include: hosting the United Way Fashion Show, interviewing Sir Richard Branson, becoming a member of the You Plus Dallas family and shooting all around our amazing city, and winning an Emmy Award. (Oh, and getting over my Bieber fever.)

I am excited to see what this new year brings. Thank you to each of my friends and employers for the encouragement to keep getting better at what I do. As my grandfather often says, "I'm not where I want to be, but I'm not where I used to be."

Super talented event planner/realtor Lisa Johnson did a top notch job of putting the entire event together, giving back to the United Way, and bringing Dallas friends together for an entertaining evening.

Here are a few snapshots from last Friday's Fashion's Night Out. We hit up Northpark and enjoyed good times at Neiman's, Nordstrom, and Barney's, and then ventured to Highland Park Village for the Christian Louboutin party. We also enjoyed lovely conversation at Carolina Herrera, Harry Winston, Jimmy Choo, and Vince. Though the night was about fashion, it was even more so about friendship and the common bond many of us share. Good times, and even larger than last year's event. My advice for next year? Get to Louboutin early and take time to get the free manicure or makeover some boutiques were offering....we didn't have time for the beauty perks, and they looked like so much fun.

After an extremely full week of working for Radio Shack and KFWD Channel 52, I enjoyed a fun weekend in Flushing Meadows at the US Open. The weather was incredible, despite a few early fears that Hurricane Earl might wreak havoc on the holiday. As a tennis player myself, it was quite an experience to see Nadal, Venus Williams, Gilles Simon, and Federer on the courts in person. Venus and Nadal won their matches, which made me very happy. The fashion at the Open was also a sight to see...lots of very chic, classic tennis wear-Polo and Lacoste are standard fare. The Crepe Suzettes were delicious, and courtesy of the Olympus VIP Suite, I didn't even get a sunburn. All in all, a great way to spend the holiday....oh, and a little shopping in Manhattan capped off a lovely trip.

Friday night was the Red Bull Art of Can Gala at the Dallas Galleria on the ice rink. What an amazing display of art work and music! I really enjoyed shooting with the unique art pieces and getting the chance to hear Dallas rockers Ishi perform. Red Bull certainly knows the way to throw a party....miniature chocolate mousse and cupcakes were my personal favorites from the night.

Some of you know that I started a new job as a Senior Producer/Host. Friday night we were pleased to be a part of Couture for a cause. Blind Ukrainian couturier Sergey Ermakov from Kiev came to Dallas for "designing with a VISION", benefiting the American Foundation for the Blind Center on Vision Loss. Sergey can only see 5% of what you can see and he is living proof that people can live successfully with vision loss - which is the theme of the event. His creations are inspired by art, literature, nature and history. Our team left inspired and excited about the event and we can't wait to share some of the highlights.

Here are two photos from a recent shoot at NIB Chocolates with my good friend and world's yummiest chocolatier, Steve Smith. He was kind enough to show me how to make the beautiful chocolates that he creates-ganache and all. We had a blast making the chocolate shells, pouring the ganache, and eating the chocolate drizzled lollipops...our shoot was around lunchtime, and it was the best chocolate lunch I've ever had. If you are looking for chocolates that are unique and delicious, NIB is the place to go. Or, if you are like me and want to experience making them for yourself, Steve offers super fun classes and can teach you how to be a chocolatier for a day. Delicious!

I have been fortunate to find some wonderful Dallas women who support philanthropy in the community. We also had a wonderful time at the Tinsel and Dreams Gala at Union Station for the Wilkinson Center Auxiliary and the Irving Firefighters Ball. It isn't every day that a girl gets to brush up on her Spanish so quickly, but I did last week at the MTV Latin Music Awards. I worked the red carpet interviews and scored face time with a musical idol of mine-Snoop Dogg. A close second would have to be Maksim Chmerkovskly and Cheryl Burke from DWTS. They are my two favs! Audrina Patridge, Kelly Osbourne, Backstreet Boys, 50 Cent, Nelly Furtado....they all looked great in person. If only I could roll my "r's" better....

This past Saturday, I had the privilege of being asked by the fantastic Director of the Ice Girls, Wendy Dutton, to be a judge of the 2009-10 Dallas Stars Ice Girls tryouts. I had so much fun seeing the new hopefuls and returning veterans-some of which I have become friends with over the years. From dancing to skating to just looking gorgeous, these ladies made the day exciting and got me pumped about the upcoming hockey season. Go Stars!

Last night we shot the new episode of Home and Lifestyle TV at Summerfest, which takes place through Sept. 6th at the Gaylord Texan. I grabbed a few photos with some of the coolest characters at Summerfest-including this gold cowboy. As you can see, I wasn't too sure about wearing my balloon hat-but I did eventually make a little girl very happy by giving it away to her.

Here are a few photos from the black carpet World Premiere of the documentary film, "Black Mold Exposure". The first several showings were here in Dallas, where I interviewed the director/producer, cast, and NORMI officials before the premiere. Not only is this film shocking and entertaining, but it is one that EVERYONE should see. The remaining cities holding screenings this spring and summer are Austin, San Diego, Boston, Seattle, Houston, and Chicago. I highly recommend it!

I recently shot a commercial with Barry Williams, aka "Greg Brady" from the Brady Bunch TV show. This was incredibly exciting for me, since I am a huge Brady Bunch fan and can sing all the words to "Sunshine Day" and "Time to Change". New Year's Nation Dallas Party 2009

For the third year in a row, I have been fortunate enough to host the Dallas New Year's Nation party. This year was at the Old Red Courthouse in downtown Dallas, with FOUR floors of gourmet food, bars, and casinos. The live simulcast included nine other cities, with DJ AM and Travis Barker in L.A. and Ice-T in New York! We had thousands of online viewers and a partnership with ESPN, which made for a fun and exciting evening. Here are a few photos from a night to remember!

.....the Elisa/Fluendo shoot last week! I loved this couch-it's a beautiful robin's egg blue leather, and has a hefty price tag to go with it. A girl can dream, can't she? The set design on this shoot was simple but eye-catching and gave me some great ideas of things to do to my condo.

Dallas Stars Christmas Party

Tonight makes the fifth holiday party I've been to in one week. I am throughly enjoying the Christmas goodies and conversation, though I confess I am looking forward to some downtime with family this week. Here are two photos from the Dallas Stars Christmas Party at The Boardroom in Victory Park. I am still very good friends with many of the people I worked with from my stint there a few years ago, and it's always fun to catch up at the holiday party every year. Go Stars!

10 Most Beautiful Women of Dallas Party

Last night was the D Magazine "10 Most Beautiful" Party. The magazine was not only kind enough to invite the 10 of us from last year, but my dear friend Karen Noseff is a winner this year! The party was held at Saks Fifth Avenue and sponsored by Mercedes Benz (who I have to thank for the love of my life. ) I enjoyed being able to meet the new winners and congratulate Karen. The DJ was great and the goodies were top notch-especially the hot chocolate with all the trimmings. (Side note: the magazine accidentally put Karen's age as 38 instead of the youthful 32 that she is. Although she is gorgeous at any age, she looks NOWHERE near 38.) Be sure to pick up a copy when it hits newsstands next month.

We've finished our Doritos Superbowl commercial for the Crash the Superbowl Contest and I need your help! Everyday with Rachel Ray

My Rachel Ray experience was such a great one. Thanks to everyone who watched and sent their emails and letters-I appreciate you sharing in my cooking trials and tribulations. There will be mention of my Rach to the Rescue in the December Holiday issue of "Everyday with Rachel Ray" . It hits newsstands on November 18th, so keep an eye out. Who knows? Maybe this Thanksgiving I might even bring the stuffing.

Last night was the Dallas Stars watching party in Addison, where I got to hang out with three of my favorite Ice Girls: Laurie, Katie, and Grace. Their new uniforms look amazing! When it comes to hockey, though, the Stars are going to have to clean up a few things so they don't let last season's promise of greatness slip away. May Marty lead the way!

My good friend Karen Noseff (center) just opened her new showroom in DMC for her line, Fortune Denim. It's such a cool, fun brand and has an impressive celebrity following. This photo of Karen, Kari Schlegel, and I was taken at the launch party-good food, a great DJ, and cute jeans.... you can't do much better than that.
